A course is a unit of study within a program. Through each HIMALAYAN JAN KALYAN SAMITI, each course is assigned credit point value which contributes to the overall degree award. You usually enroll in at least one course in one quarter (you can enroll up to five courses per quarter). On successful completion of your course / s you will be awarded grade.Grades appear on your official academic transcript and count towards completion of your degree.
Society has set up a formal school on the Kumaon region Himalayas. In addition to conventional subjects, children are taught to work with their hands and learn skills like carpentry, bamboo/Ringals work, lacquer ware toys, nursery/ crafting techniques, sewing, book binding, etc. The aim is to give enough opportunities and freedom to the children to learn and to develop their own interest and also to generate in them an understanding and love for nature. The school strives to make education a meaningful and joyful experience for children.
The society has regularly been conducting educational programmes aimed at benefit of the masses and more particularly the people below the poverty line. The programmes have got recognition and appreciation from both the society and the authorities.
WOMEN’S RIGHTS EDUCATION:
A major problem in the villages is that disadvantaged women are unaware of their rights and privileges. As a result, they are not treated fairly when it comes to property settlements, inheritances and marriages. HIMALAYAN JAN KALYAN SAMITI has been organizing legal education programs and legal-aid camps to make these women aware of their rights and privileges, and has reached out to over 5300 women so far.
